If you are new to linux and want to install linux on your older hardware then linux lite is a good choice for you. linux lite uses xfce desktop environment that is lightweight and easy to use. even i use linux lite for testing applications and i have installed it on my intel pc (core i3, 6gb ram) and it works awesome.. I have a very old pc lying around (but in working condition). it is a pentium 4 3ghz, 256mb ddr ram and with 80gb hdd. i am thinking of re-formatting it and installing a free distribution of linux to make this pc productive again..
